Typewritten Bottle & Cocktail Labels

A photo of two, mostly empty cocktail bottles each with a handmade paper label with typewritten text describing the cocktails that the bottles held

With all the holiday entertaining, I find it’s a welcome gift to arrive at a party with a homemade, pre-batched cocktail. To underscore the hand-crafted nature of the drink, I typed up some quick, purposefully misaligned labels for each bottle.

This photo is from the aftermath of a couple of batches the morning after a party. It’s safe to say that I was the only typewriter owner in the crowd, but the labels were commented on as things of beauty. Perhaps I created a few converts (to the Typosphere). 😉

Making Them

This was plain (albeit vintage) paper that I applied with a glue stick. Be sure to use a “permanent” glue stick (as shown in this photo) rather than the “washable ” types as those will immediately slide off if the bottle gets wet or has any condensation (as happens with chilled bottles). Since these are glass bottles, the “permanent” glue will wash off with hot water.

For trimming the paper, I hand creased and tore the straight edges and used a pinhole perforator for the sides that look like they have a postage stamp edge.
