Partners with paws and police badges
1989 unleashed a pair of canine cop comedies with Turner & Hooch and K-9, each pairing a crime-solving detective with an unruly four-legged partner. Both films wring laughs from mismatched personalities, chewed-up cars, and detectives learning that their best partner doesn't speak English. But while Turner & Hooch leans into heartfelt character growth and slobbery chaos, K-9 plays things a little rougher, mixing buddy-cop banter with a police dog that has just as much attitude as its human counterpart. Same basic setup, different breeds of comedy.
Turner & Hooch
A fastidious small-town California police detective is days away from a transfer to a bigger city when his friend, an old junkyard owner, is murdered. The only witness is the victim's enormous, slobbering French mastiff, so the detective reluctantly takes the dog in while he investigates a smuggling operation tied to the killing. Chaos, property damage, and an unexpected romance with the local veterinarian follow as the neat-freak cop and his unruly new partner learn to work together.
