Hostile alient takeover, Hollywood edition.
Released just months apart, Skyline and Battle: Los Angeles both imagine humanity's first contact arriving with explosions instead of handshakes. Each throws ordinary people into the chaos of a full-scale alien invasion, complete with collapsing cities, relentless extraterrestrial forces, and desperate last stands. Skyline leans into mystery, spectacle, and survival horror as civilians struggle to stay alive, while Battle: Los Angeles takes a boots-on-the-ground approach, following a platoon of Marines through a gritty urban war zone. Same invasion, different perspectives, proving there's more than one way to blow up Los Angeles.
Skyline
Jarrod and his girlfriend Elaine travel to Los Angeles for a friend's birthday party, only for the night to be interrupted by mesmerizing blue lights that hypnotize anyone who looks at them and draw people up into massive alien ships, as an extraterrestrial force begins swallowing the human population off the face of the earth.
