THE TYPIST'S CIPHER

A reciprocal substitution cipher built for paper and ribbon. Toggle the switches to set your key, encode your message, then strike it out on any standard typewriter. Same key encodes and decodes.

Technical details
Eight switches form an 8-bit seed (0–255). The seed deterministically shuffles all 56 supported characters into one reciprocal table — if A→4, then 4→A — so the same switch positions both encode and decode. Letters, numbers, and symbols mix freely in a single pool, so nothing in the output betrays which kind of character it once was. Everything is set in capitals for greater secrecy. Supported set: A–Z · 0–9 · ! # $ % & * ( ) - = + ; : " , . ? @ ' _ plus space and line breaks (which are unmodified).
