Liner, Listening & Album Notes:
Liner notes from the album back cover:
Throughout history the jungle has been a constant lure to the adventurer, the anthropologist and the hunter. Now, the jungle is being penetrated again-but this time by the musician.
Every big game expedition has its guide so it is only natural that this big sound expedition should have a leader, too, and that he should be none no other than Camarata, who is noted for breaking down barriers and opening new musical frontiers. As producer of this album, Camarata’s aim was to make this jungle adventure a memorable listening experience so he signed on for this musical safari such innovators as the Don Randi Trio, Curtis Amy’s Combo, and the Exotic Strings.
By assigning the assorted melodies to each group individually, Camarata has also come up with a programming adventure. The musical pace changes as the musical mood changes and through it all are interwoven the sounds of jungle life. The chatter of monkeys, the clatter of apes, the howl of the hippopotamus, the bleat of the elephant, the happy chant of natives dancing, and even the triumphant yell of Tarzan as he swings to battle, give the musical segments a special kind of authenticity, color, imagination and wit.
The jungle opens up to the listener with Don Randi’s compositions, ”Tropical Safari ” & ”ceremonial Rain Dance.” With these two originals, the atmosphere is established in no uncertain terms. In addition to the sounds of the jungle, the other senses are brought into play, too, and the listener almost gets the feel , the taste and the smell of the jungle. The same applies to the numbers that follow. In ”Baby Elephant Walk,” you’re virtually in the center of the herd as it plows its way through the underbrush, ••sunrise, Sunset,” displays the beauties and wonders of the jungle’s dawn and dusk, ”Passion Flower” conjures up the exotic nature of the jungle, and ”Jungle Adventure” supplies a fitting climax to the safari with a dramatic musical crescendo that offers a feeling of fulfillment.
Camarata and his troops, Don Randi, Curtis Amy and the Exotic Strings, have cut their way through with music and sound , and staked their claim. The jungle is theirs. The pleasure is yours.
