Liner, Listening & Albums Notes:
Obscure dance grenades from the 40s, 50s and early 60s. The strictly limited 10 “series is compiled exclusively for Stag-O-Lee by the Stuttgart DJ Duke JensOmatic. It’s very clear that one eye always turns on the dance floor, while the other is constantly searching for unpublished, rare or only available on 78s beads. Buy now or cry later.
Years ago, the Stuttgart DJ Duke Jens-O-Matic gave me a mix CD titled Bongology! and as he puts the Jim Jam Gem’s volumes thematically in, it was a special pleasure to hear that he is working on a Bongology / Exotica special!
While much Mambo R & B was included on his old-time CD, he takes a few bold steps here, starting with the Lecuana Cuban Boys (great taboo) and ending with Julie London’s version of Come-On-A-My-House. In between there are said Mambo R & B (Sugar Boy Crawford) and Bo Diddley-eskes (Jimmy van Eaton), finds of Indian (Kishore Kumar) and Thai (Sondi Sodsai) artists, Latineskes (Cab Calloway) and Calypso (Wilmoth Houdini, Dinah Washington ). That all this clean together, is the trained ear of a hard-working DJ!
